Metropolitan College launched its Maritime & SuperYacht Academy in partnership with Solent University in Southampton, UK, giving the opportunity to young people to attend one of the world’s leading maritime academies, without leaving Greece. The Maritime & SuperYacht Academy is based in the new modern 3,500m² facilities of Metropolitan College in the heart of Piraeus port.
Metropolitan College collaborates with the world-leading, 70-year-old Warsaw School of Maritime Science and Engineering of Solent University, the world’s premier maritime education and training provider offering first class education, training, consultancy and research services to the international shipping, commercial yacht, and offshore oil and gas industries.
The new Maritime & SuperYacht Academy aims to deliver Maritime Education with an international perspective in Greece. The Academy covers the whole range of maritime training, starting with merchant navy officers, Yacht/Superyacht officers and crews, undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Shipping and Port Management. All academic programmes consist of up-to-date modules which cover all the latest trends and aspects of the functional and practical areas of the Shipping and Maritime industry. Metropolitan College also collaborates with the Professional Yachting Association- PYA, to provide specialized certifications in the fields of Yacht and Superyacht.
Metropolitan College is the only higher education institution in Greece which is accredited by the two most prestigious professional societies in the shipping industry worldwide, namely the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers – ICS and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport – CILT. Moreover, it is an Associate Member of INTERCARGO, the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners and a Marine Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology – IMarEST, the international membership body and learned society for marine professionals operating in the spheres of marine engineering, science, or technology. Metropolitan College is a Corporate Member of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association – HELMEPA. The membership’s aim is to support the association’s actions to create an environmental conscience in shipping, maritime safety and to maintain a clean marine environment, as well as to expand students training opportunities at contemporary issues and increase awareness of the marine environment protection. Last but not least, the Metropolitan College Piraeus campus is unconditionally certified as a Maritime Training Provider by DNV-GL, the world’s leading classification society, being the only College in Greece that carries this certification, which covers all naval and maritime training programmes offered.
